HI!

Posted by Monisa | Posted in blog | Posted on 22-03-2010 | 343 Comments »

Just thought I would get on here and shoot everyone an update.  First, I NEED MORE BIRTHDAY CARDS FOR OUR CONTESTS!  Yes Iam yelling! lol  I need more to choose from for the prize.  And this prize is AWESOME!  It is a wonderful, multi colored, Alice in Wonderland themed bouquet that would be perfect for your spring time decor.  The creators at Wee Bee Bouquets did an awesome job and I know you will want it.

Next, tried to go see the Runaways on Friday but couldn’t.  Wichita obviously does not matter to the world of movies and the closest limited release was Austin TX.  AUG!!! I want to see this movie SOOOO BAD!  I loved the Runaways (especially Joan and Lita) growing up and they helped solidify my love of heavy rock music.

Third, will be seeing Clash of the Titans the weekend it comes out in April.  I might even break down and watch in 3-D but those glasses really give me a headache.  The original is on TV this weekend so my daughter and I (and maybe I can get Seth, Sarah, Aaron and others to join us) to watch this original masterpiece of cinematic triumph! LOL It is one of my campy favorites.

Fourth, anyone get their copy of New Moon this past weekend?  Did you stand in line, go to a release party, order on-line and are still waiting (ME)?  I got to see the 7 minute addition on the Wal-Mart copy and it really makes me want to see Eclipse now.  I really could care less if Breaking Dawn gets made but can’t wait for Eclipse.  And I am also anxiously awaiting Harry Potter in November.  Watched the HP movies this weekend and realized how much I miss having a new movie out.  It will be a SAD, SAD day when they are done.

Finally, it appears becasue of lack of interest and participation on the viewers/fans side we will be stopping production of Beautiful Monsters.  We will still have our web site and will still have our forums and will blog but no video or audio show.  This makes me very sad but if the fans don’t care then there is nothing for us to respond to or address or talk about that YOU want to hear.  I don’t want to stop but for right now this appears to be the best for Seth, Sarah and I.  I will still be on here blogging about my love of Supernatural books, movies, TV, etc so you won’t be free of me entirely but I will miss the podcasts!

A Goodbye and a New Beginning.

Dear Fiends,

Monisa and I are signing off the show. Within the past three months, our schedules have become increasingly hectic, with no signs of letting up. Seth has a new job with crazy time constraints; Monisa has her daughter, a job, church responsibilities, as well as volunteering on her plate; I’ve been writing and editing for a local magazine, and of course, I have a baby to look after.

On top of our busy schedules, the participation is pretty nil. We receive a bare minimum of e-mails, contest participation, and forum visits. Maybe it’s the fact that we’ve stopped covering Twilight news. I’d like to think there are some people out there who love sci-fi and fantasy as much as Monisa and I do, but apparently it’s not quite enough. Maybe if we’d kept the show Twilight only, then we’d still have as much participation as we had before. But frankly, we wanted to move on.

So here’s where we’re going from here:

Monisa and I are going to keep blogging. And because we’re no longer doing the show, we’ll actually have more time to update. I’ll still be reviewing books, chatting about TV shows and movies that I love. Monisa will still review movies, and talk about her myriad interests. If we eventually get participation on our awesome site, we’ll continue doing contests. We love  talking about this world, we really do. And we don’t want to quit. So we’re just shifting things around a little bit. I hope those of you who actually like what we’re doing will start participating. Because as fun as it is to do for myself alone, participation is really the only thing that makes it worthwhile to me. Otherwise, I have other things I could do with my time… like read :P

So I’ll keep updating. Monisa will keep updating. If we do something fun, like head to the Renaissance Faire this April, we might put up videos and pictures. We’re pretty much gonna make it fun for ourselves, and hope some of you tag along.

For those of you who are disappointed, I’m sorry, but we didn’t hear from you when it really mattered. So hopefully, you can hang out on our site and get the information and humor you’re looking for.

Thanks for letting us try,

Sarah

There are plenty of Fiendishly Fresh new releases this week, but the girls also chat about the Oscars and Alice in Wonderland. They also announce March’s Heartthrob – Johnny Depp! Throw in some Fiend Feedback and you’ve got a great show!

ALICE

Posted by Monisa | Posted in blog | Posted on 08-03-2010 | No Comments »

OK, I have been sick with horrible sinus pressure, pain and stuffiness.  Not condusive for a podcast so I missed this week.  I am so sorry and THANKS to Whitney for helping out.

I thought I might as well get on here to converse with our faithful fiends about Alice in Wonderful though.  We all (Sarah, Whitney, Kris, Mika, Allie and others) went to see it Sunday, March 7 in 3D.  I must say I loved the story, the acting and the movie overall.  It was well done.  Johnny Depp gives an outstanding performance and I thoroughly enjoyed Anne Hathaway and Helen Bonham Carter as the White and Red Queens respectively.  The new actress Mia was a FABULOUS Alice and I couldn’t have pictured anyone else in the roll.   The story is a terrific story of discovery and has something for everyone.  I think it would be OK to see in 2D as well and I might have preferred it that way.  I wear glasses and it is hard keeping the 3D glasses on over my own glasses plus the head pain did not make it fun.  I read that the 3D was added later anyway so it was filmed to be a regular movie.  Either way I think you will love it.  Now I must read Through the Looking Glass.  :)

I give this two BIG thumbs up and recommend it as a must see for everyone.

Hello all my little fiends!  I am just poppin in here very quickly to tell you about my friends at Wee Bee Bouquets.  You can find them on Facebook.  They do FANTASTIC bouquets & stuff with silk flowers and other things.  This way your special memories can last a life time.  My favorite is the diaper cake.  I hope the picture shows up but if not you can see it on their site.

The wonderful ladies, Cody & Karen, will be making us a Alice in Wonderland inspired bouquet for this month.  We will be giving it away to the winner of the Fiend Find this month so make sure you email us and participate in this months contest.  If the bouquet is anything like their Twilight bouquet I know it will be AWESOME.

Also, get to reading the Book Club book “Moon Called”.  It is great with such a strong, relatible female charcter I know you guys will love it.  Mercy is the best.  Plus the latest book of this series comes out at the end of the month and I know you will want to read all of them.

Lastly, the shows favorite fiends will be gathering Sunday afternoon here in Wichita to go see Alice in Wonderland (thus the prize for this month).  We can hardly wait and so hope it is worth all the hype.  Sarah is sure it will be as she just loves the Alice books.  We will see and report back here to our faithful fans. :)

Everyone have a great week and email us with thoughts/ideas/questions/contest answers at email@feistyfiends.comand visit our forums at fiestyfeinds.com!  Talk to you soon!

Waiting for Alice

Posted by Sarah | Posted in blog | Posted on 23-02-2010 | 9 Comments »

It’s the end of the month! Which means I’m furiously pacing, waiting for all of the excitement coming up this month. From here on out, there is a major new release every month, be it a movie or a book, until the end of the year! 2010 is packed!

I’m anxiously awaiting Silver Borne, which debuts March 30th of this month. As I’ve mentioned (and will keep mentioning; no there is no stopping me), Patricia Briggs is one of my all time favorites. Mercy Thompson is probably the most kick-ass heroine I’ve ever met. She’s quirky, pretty – but not beautiful, and fierce: all qualities that I identify with. It’s the fifth in the series; the fourth – Bone Crossed, was just released in mass market paper back! I’m going to give you a heads up and let you know that the first book in the series – Moon Called, is our Fiendish Feature of the month. If you haven’t picked up the book based on my previous ravings, do so this week!

Stopping Time – a new e-book by Melissa Marr in her Wicked Lovely series comes out March 13th! I know that it has to do with the Dark Court and Leslie… but you can find out more about it at her blog: Melissa-Writing.

And who could forget? New Moon comes out March 20th on DVD. I’m trying to squeeze one last theatre showing in my schedule before it leaves the theatres permanently. There’s not a whole lot I would change with New Moon. It was pretty much perfect. It was fun, funny, and sexy. I love how the movies don’t take themselves too seriously, and retain the really unique sense of humor that Stephenie captured so well in the books. What I’m most excited for? DELETED SCENES. Which is why I’ll be purchasing the copy from Target – the only one with 3 discs. Sure the one at Walmart as Eclipse footage, but it’ll only be a matter of time before the footage is up on youtube.

But what I’m most excited for???

ALICE IN WONDERLAND!!! YAY! I have plans to go see it with my fiendish crew: Nick, Christine, Kris, Mika, and of course, Monisa. It’s going to be fantastical. I’m not sure how the 3-D can possibly impress me after seeing the awesomeness that was Avatar 3-D, but it’s Tim Burton. And Johnny Depp. And Helena Bonham Carter. Need I say more? In case you need more persuasion… it’s a continuation of Lewis Carroll’s stories Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. It’s a completely original story, while remaining based off of the original characters. The colors, the scenery, everything looks fresh and surreal. I’m super excited, and you should be too!

All in all, an exciting month!

Anything I missed? Let me know about it in the comments.

The New Format

Posted by Sarah | Posted in blog | Posted on 16-02-2010 | 102 Comments »

If you’ve listened to the show this week, you’ll have figured out we’re back to an audio format. As much as we (Monisa, Seth and I) love love love doing a video show, it just wasn’t working out for three reasons: #1 Seth’s new job. #2 Monisa’s family. #3 My baby. In order for us to film a video show we need a large block of uninterrupted time. Monisa had to consistently reschedule important family responsibilities (it’s not easy being a single mom!); I had to make sure my mother-in-law was free to babysit Aaron for hours at a time while we were doing the show, and Seth had to set aside three days to film the show, edit the show, and upload the show. Seth has a new job now with crazy hours, which he loves, but the hours have made it impossible for him to dedicate enough time to edit the show. Monisa and I will both have an easier time recording an audio show. It will give us a more flexible time schedule with which to work. It takes a lot less time to do an audio show.

I really wish it were in the stars for us to continue doing a video show, but right now it’s not. I’m sorry to those of you who really enjoyed our previous format, but have no fear! We’re keeping the same segments. Follow-the-Fiend and the Fiendish Art segments will still be recorded as video, they’ll just be uploaded directly onto the website instead of being incorporated within our show. We’ll still do movie reviews as well.

AND, once a month we’ll host a live video show as well. Kathleen and I did these way back when. We’re going to try to get it set up so we can take phone calls as well, and yes, the chat room will be back. For this month we’ll be starting the live show this Friday (the 19th) at 10 PM CST. Monisa and I will be joined by her daughter and a friend of ours. We’ll be chatting about the Fiendish Feature for this month: “A Certain Slant of Light” by Laura Whitcomb, and whatever else we want to talk about. :)

I hope you guys will stick with us through this transitional phase. It was really cool being the top three in video literature podcasts, but I hope your support will help us move higher up in the audio realm as well.

AND, thanks to Seth for remodeling the website to make it easier for Monisa and I to update. I’ll be blogging (almost) every day.

Hope you don’t get sick of me!
HAPPY FAT TUESDAY!

Hectic personal lives are not conducive for doing a video podcast. Thus, the ladies are back to an audio format. Once a month they will have a live video show for you die hard fans. More info on that at feistyfiends.com. With a shockingly low amount of Fiendishly Fresh new releases, Sarah talks about what some favorite authors have been up to. And Monisa gets the ball rolling talking about their Fiend Fave of the week: Gothic Beauty magazine. Their Heroine of the month is an oldie but a goodie. They wrap it all up with some Fiend Feedback.
